One of the most satisfying things for me to hear is God moving in the lives of Fathers and Sons!
I recently took a call from a good friend who has been walking with a brother through his broken relationship with his Dad for some time and they called me to see if I could provide anything to help him having just gotten off a phone call with his Dad the day before that didn’t go well. The call ended with Dad hanging up on his son.
Admittedly, both parties fed the fire in the conversation, but the son (once he knew the conversation was going off the rails) conceded to talk another time because he could tell he was getting to a place that was unhealthy for himself to be at. A wise move! Even though he suggested that to his Dad, his Dad kept going. He started to advice his son on how he should raise his sons. The son asked, “Where was that insight when I was a kid?” You can see it was headed in the wrong direction.
The miracle that happened is why I am sharing this story today. In the middle of the night, Dad sent the son a text message apologizing for how he handled the situation and opened the door to talking again. Incredible! Dad is not saved, yet there God was convicting him of sin. I was exceedingly excited because it was an open door to another conversation. One that could be prepared for through prayer and fasting to get a better result. Will God influence your Dad if he’s not saved? You bet he will! And when it’s for his will and good purposes, he will make restoration happen!
I look forward to writing to you again next week toward the end of the weekend instead of my typical Friday afternoon! [June 16th update: I’m sorry I wasn’t able to do this one as my wife and I were returning from a short-term mission trip to Brazil]
